Our Projects

Wild elephants in Sri Lanka are facing increasing danger and threats to their survival due to human activities such as deforestation, encroachment of natural habitats, and poaching. The demand for land for agriculture, urbanization, and infrastructure development has led to the destruction of vast areas of forested land, resulting in the fragmentation of elephant habitats, and the loss of food and water sources. As a result, elephants have been forced to move into human settlements causing human-elephant conflict.

In addition to habitat loss, elephants in Sri Lanka are also under threat from poaching. The ivory trade is banned in Sri Lanka, but illegal poaching still persists. Elephants are killed for their ivory tusks, which are in high demand in the international market.

Conservationists are trying to address these issues by raising awareness, working with local communities to promote coexistence with elephants, establishing protected areas, and enforcing laws against poaching. However, more needs to be done to ensure the long-term survival of wild elephants in Sri Lanka.

A New Beginning for a Ridgeback in Need: Our Rescue Story

I was approached with a heartfelt request to adopt a Ridgeback that was facing an uncertain future, as it was nearly without a place to call home. After thoughtful consideration, I decided to step in and provide the care that this beautiful dog desperately needed. With the necessary approvals from our Dhamma Buddhi Foundation, I am pleased to share that we have successfully taken in the Ridgeback at our animal rescue facility located in Aralaganvila, Sri Lanka. Here, we are fully committed to ensuring that this dog receives not only the shelter and nourishment it requires, but also the love and attention it deserves during its time with us. Our team is dedicated to rehabilitating and finding loving, permanent homes for animals like this Ridgeback, who have fallen on hard times. We strive to create a nurturing environment where all animals can thrive, and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of this special Ridgeback.

Be a Hero for Wildlife: Offer a Lifesaving Water Bowl

The message underscores the significance of offering a basic water bowl for wildlife. It points out that a simple bowl filled with water can greatly influence the survival of animals, particularly in hot or arid environments. By setting the bowl outside and keeping it filled, people can aid local wildlife and contribute to their conservation. This simple yet impactful action encourages individuals to step up as heroes for animals in need.
